Here is a list of the questions we get asked the most, along with helpful answers. If you have a question that isn’t in the list, please email us.

Q. How do I get a library card?
A. To receive a Salt Spring library card, you must live permanently on Salt Spring Island or own property on the island. You must have proof of identity and proof of your address. To receive a library card, you can apply online, or visit the library.
Q. How long is the card good for?
A. Generally library cards must be renewed every three years.
Q. If I am a visitor to Salt Spring, can I get a library card?
A. Yes, if you are a visitor and have a library card from another BC Public Library, we will be happy to grant you visiting library privileges through the BC One Card program. If you don’t have a BC library card, you can purchase a one-year non-resident card for $25.
Q. What happens if I lose my card?
A. It costs $5 to replace a lost card. And note: If you do lose your card, please get it cancelled. You are responsible for any items borrowed on it.
Q. What happens if I lose a book or my dog chews it up?
A. You will be requested to pay for the book plus an administrative fee for re-ordering and bar-coding.
Q. Can I use the free Internet access to check my email?
A. Yes, we have computers available for one-hour sessions, as well as express machines that can be used for 15 minutes. All computers have internet access as well as the Microsoft Office suite of programs.
