Happy Canada Day
We’ve started off the week well! On June 30th, our online system, Sitka, was supposed to go down for updates, leaving libraries across BC unable to check books in, out, register patrons, or search their catalogues. But lo and behold! All systems are go and we are fully operational.
On to activities! Even though we’re closed for Canada Day, there’s still plenty going on at the library. Our first Summer Reading Club activity is happening Wednesday July 2nd from 10:30-12:00. On Thursday, we have a Preteen games day happening from 2:00-5:00 when kids ages 8-12 can come in and play games to their heart’s content.
Moreover, we have some very exciting news! There is a new page up on our website featuring Salt Spring’s talented local writers. Check out this page to find out more about your favourite island writers, including a biography and a list of their works available at the library.
Each week we will be featuring a different author. This week, the spotlight falls onto Frank Burnaby. Originally from California, Frank has found a permanent home on Salt Spring after a long life of adventures, some of which can be read in his memoir, Island Born. For more info on Frank Burnaby, you can look at his page on our website:
That’s it for now. Happy Canada Day everyone!
