It seems the library is housing many an author lately. Last week, we were very lucky to host a reading and book signing by the best-selling author Patrick Taylor. This week, the kids have their turn! On Wednesday, we are having a very special Summer Reading Club activity: local author Andrea Spalding is coming in to present her book It's Raining, It's Pouring. But that's not all! Summer Reading Club author/illustrator Jeremy Tankard, creator of works such as Grumpy Bird, will be sharing some details about being an illustrator on Thursday. For more details, visit the library event page.
Speaking of authors, this week's local author spotlight falls onto the infamous Robert Bateman. Born in Toronto, with a degree in geography from the University of Toronto, Bateman taught high school for 20 years, including two years in Nigeria. He travelled around the world in 1957/58, increasing his appreciation of cultural and natural heritage. Since leaving teaching in 1976 to paint full-time, he has travelled widely with his artist/conservationist wife Birgit to many remote natural areas. For more information, visit our feature page or take a look at his website.
And some quick trivia: did you know that we have resources other than books available for library members? We have countless databases for scholarly articles, consumer knowledge, kid's education, and much, much more! Just click here.
That's all for this week folks!
