Orca Chief and Worried Man
This week we are fortunate to have two book launches in the Program Room.
Orca Chief | Wed 6pm
Join artist Roy Henry Vickers & author Lucky Budd for an evening of storytelling and art, to celebrate the third installment in the bestselling Northwest Coast Legends series. Their previous collaborations, Raven Brings the Light (2013) and Cloudwalker (2014), are award-winning national bestsellers. Orca Chief shares an ancient fable about respecting our oceans.
B.C. artist Roy Henry Vickers is best known around the world for his limited edition prints, which show his love and respect of the magnificent natural beauty of this area, clearly evident in his art. His boldly colourful sunsets, subdued misty rivers and peaceful winter scenes reflect the essence of the west coast of Canada. He is also an accomplished carver, a sought-after keynote speaker, and publisher and author of several successful books. In 1998, the Province of British Columbia appointed Roy to the prestigious Order of B.C.
Sing A Worried Song | Fri 7pm
An Evening with Author William Deverell, award-winning Pender Island resident, lawyer, bestselling author, and creator of the hit CBC television series Street Legal. He has written screenplays, radio plays, and his books have been translated into ten languages and sold over one million copies worldwide. He will be reading from his new Arthur Beauchamp novel, Sing a Worried Song.
“It takes a worried man to sing a worried song. I’m worried now, but I won’t be worried long.” It’s an old folk song that Arthur Beauchamp can’t get out of his head. But poor old Arthur will have lots to worry about, including his possible violent death.
