The library has activities and resources for patrons of all ages. This week we are crossing generations with the Writers of the Square Table, hosting an Open Mic poetry evening that welcomes contributions from all ages and welcoming back our Youth Conjuring Club. We also have some advanced news that will be sure to build your enthusiasm for our Summer Reading Program.

Art Show | Writers of the Square Table

The library is pleased to present an art show created by the Writers of the Square Table. This intergenerational group has been meeting weekly to express, listen and share their diverse literary and visual explorations.

Art Talk - June 2015 18 x 24 3Through their connections, they have been learning about who they are, discovering their strengths and values and finding out how the world looks and feels to each other.

The Writers of the Square Table are part of Let’s Get Experimental a project of Connecting Generations, jointly funded by school district 64, the Salt Spring Arts Council, the BC Arts Council and the Province of BC.

The project aims to strengthen the social and emotional health of youth through intergenerational workshops in creative writing and multi-media storytelling.

On **Wednesday the 3rd of June at 4:30pm** join the Connecting Generations Writers Group and Artist-facilitators Sam Barlow, Ahava Shira and Sarah Hook Nilsson for **an evening of poetry, storytelling and art**. An anthology of the works will be published later this year.

Poetry Open Mic

The featured poet for this month’s open mic is Robert Hilles, winner of the Governer General’s Award for Poetry in 1994 for Cantos from a Small Room.

As usual, there is one poem one poem per reader, First come, first served. Signup is at 6:45, Open Mic at 7pm and Robert’s reading at 7:30pm.

Return of the Conjuring Club

Every Friday at 3:30 pm, join magician Shaun Luttin for a 90 minute lesson in conjuring and sleight-of-hand. All ages are welcome and no experience is necessary. To register by email

Coming Soon | Summer Reading Club | Build It

Expand your imagination and put forth your creativity with this year’s Summer Reading Club: BUILD IT! at the Salt Spring Public Library. There is a multitude of books to help explore the unknown, create futuristic technology, design structures, or be part of a fantasy world of your own! The world is in your hands to discover and create.

BillDitRegistration for the Summer Reading Club begins Thursday, June 18th. Kids up to the age of 12 are encouraged to sign up for the Summer Reading Club at the Library and get a free reading record to keep track of their summer reading.

As if reading and prizes aren’t enough, BUILD IT! Summer Reading Club activities will be offered every Friday from July 3rd to August 14th (excluding Friday, July 17 due to Summer Library Camp). Activities will take place at 10:30 A.M. in the Library Program Room. All programs are free and everyone is welcome without registration.
