Mac Basics and BC Day
Tech Cafe | Mac Basics
Salt Spring Island Public Library is pleased to announce a brand new installment of the Tech Café, a free public series of programs that offer instruction, information, and advice on a wide range of technology-based topics. This month’s Tech Café, Mac Basics, will be conducted in two sessions on Wednesday, July 29. Led by tech instructor and pioneer Donn Tarris, who has been helping Mac users on Salt Spring for 13 years. Mac Basics provides an introduction to all things Mac-related.
Donn will lead two Mac Basic sessions on July 29, the first from noon to 1:00 pm and the second from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Both sessions are ideal for new users of the Mac computers or those who wish to understand more about the basics.
The afternoon session, designed for lunch hour, is one hour long and will focus on demonstrations by Donn. Those wishing to attend should register ahead of time at the Library and note any particular areas they hope will be covered. Donn will tailor his presentation accordingly. The evening session, from 7:00 – 9:00, will repeat demonstrations given in the afternoon and then move to questions and answers. Participants are again asked to register ahead of time and are very welcome to attend both sessions or only one, as they desire.
Both the afternoon and the evening sessions will be structured so a new Mac user will learn the basics about their new computer or other device. Topics include: initial setup of the computer, including setting up a new user account; explanation of Apple’s ID system; Apple Mail; web browsers on Macs; data backup; and responses to submitted topic requests.
The Tech Café is a free series offered by the Library. We are pleased to work with such diverse and talented instructors as Donn Tarris, who began working and instructing in the fields of desktop publishing and audio recording and production in 1985. For more information or to register for one of these Mac Basic sessions, please email firstname.lastname@example.org, or phone 250-537-4666.
