Parent Resource Corner at the Library
For all parents, guardians, and caregivers, the Salt Spring Library has a resource for you! Thanks to funding from the Times Colonist Raise-a-Reader program, the Library is pleased to announce a new Parent Resource Corner, a special collection of books and DVDs dedicated to tackling relevant parenting issues. Topics include pregnancy, behavioural challenges in children and teens, discipline, same-sex marriage, and family issues such as divorce.
The Parent Resource Corner is located in…you guessed it…the corner of the children’s area at the Salt Spring Library, on the low window shelves beside the train set. In this location, parents and caregivers can browse or sit and read from the collection while easily keeping an eye on their children. All books in the Parent Resource Corner are marked with a colourful label showing three birds standing on each others heads.
In addition to the books and DVDs specifically included in the Parent Resource Corner, the Corner also provides a book list for further reading, providing direction to other areas of the Library where more parenting materials can be found.
The Times Colonist Raise-a-Reader program is a year-round initiative that provides funds for family literacy programs on Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands. The Raise-a-Reader program has supported Salt Spring Library for several years now, including funding for Lit Kits, a set of portable story time kits assembled and made available to the public in 2013.
