Sign Up for a Library Card

Library cards are free of charge.  To receive a Salt Spring library card, you must live permanently on Salt Spring Island or own property on the island. You must have proof of identity and proof of your address on Salt Spring Island. All library cards must be renewed every three years.

You can apply for a library card by completing the online form, or by visiting the library.

Applications from non-residents cannot be processed online.  Members of other BC libraries may be eligible for a BC OneCard, which would give them borrowing privileges at Salt Spring Island Public Library.

For more information please refer to our FAQs.

Library card holders’ rights and responsibilities

You are responsible for all the materials borrowed on your card and for any charges on items that are overdue, lost or damaged. (See Loan Periods and Fines for details). Your library card provides access to licensed databases from outside the library. You may also look at our catalogue from home over the Internet, and access your account to place holds, keep lists and renew items.

Lost or stolen cards

If you lose your library card, you are responsible for any items checked out on your card. You must report it as lost immediately and we will block the card so that no one can use it. It costs $5 to replace a lost card.

Change of address or password

It is important for us to have your current information. If you change your address or other personal information, contact the library and we’ll update your record.
