Born in New York City, Peter Levitt is a longtime student of Zen and the founding and guiding teacher of the Salt Spring Zen Circle on Salt Spring Island, where he lives with his family. As a writer, he has published many poetry books and acted as editor and translator for works in Chinese, Japanese and Spanish. In 1989, Peter was awarded the inaugural Lannan Foundation Award in Poetry.
